To carry out our Active School application, we needed the help of our students. To facilitate this we set up an ‘Active Schools Committee’. We have two members of each class from 1st class up represented on our active School committee who meet regularly throughout the year. They have been working hard with Ms.Cremin and Rita, carrying out surveys, sharing ideas and performing duties. All our A.S.F. initiatives are possible thanks to the research, ideas and hard work of the ASF committee. Well done to all involved, you are doing a great job!!
This year we have been in contact with Cork Sports Partnerships on various occasions.
Ms Cremin and Mrs Quinn completed a ‘Shuttle Time’ Badminton course and we also received Badminton equipment for the school and we will be taking part in a Badminton Competition in Cork at the end of the year.
Ms Cremin is also completing the ‘Ready to go Orienteering’ Teacher training and we will also receive lots of new equipment for Orienteering.
Croke Rovers GAA Club
We are very lucky to have Liam Fitzgerald from Croke Rovers GAA club who is coming to coach Football with Juniors to Second Class and they are really enjoying it.
Pat Spratt organised football blitz’s for 2nd and 3rd class in Mallow GAA Club which they really enjoyed.
Martin Farrissey from Rebel Óg is also coaching football to 3rd and 4th class.
Duhallow Gymnastics Club
Patricia O’Reilly comes to our school Thursdays from January to June. She covers the strands of Gymnastics, Athletics and Dance.
Our 5th and 6th class trained hard all year with Mr. Cronin and they really enjoy this activity . Spikeball is an introduction to the volleyball game. It incorporates many of the skills that we see in volleyball but cleverly adapts the rules to make the game more inclusive, easier and FUN for all new and experienced participants. On March 6th all of 5th and 6th class went to Killarney for the Munster Finals in Spike ball. We had a girls and boys team in the tournament. Both teams did exceptionally well to get to the semi finals of their respective competitions. The standards were really high. We were very proud of ourselves to get so close to getting to a Munster final. We’ll try again next year.
